Welcome again folks! Today I'm talking about another Tarryn Fisher book. Every book of her it's different and refreshing so join me in this book talk & Let's begin!
Synopsis:
Margo Moon lives in a God-forgotten-town called the Bone. Her whole life she has known and seen suffering, until one day she turns herself in this dark vigilante. Beware humans, here comes Margo Moon. So that's all I can say without spoilers. After all, it's a thriller. Now if you want, you can scroll down to the spoiler section.
Spoiler Section:
I have to thank again Tarryn Fisher for taking me out off of my comfort zone. I didn't read much of this genre and thank God that my first book was a good one. When I read a book of Fisher I always like to read it without any information of the book. You can't know where the spoilers are. If a person tells you that the book has a plot twist, your minds get invested in that and you're expecting it. As for me, I like to begin her books in blank. But when I finish it, I had to look for answers, so I went first to her web page, and found the reason why she wrote Marrow. I was so happy that she did, that way horrible humans can know what's waiting for them if they misbehave (Of course, I'm joking... Am I?).
Anyhow, we follow Margo since she was a child and the horrible life she (and every person in the town) has/had/has in the Bone. There're drugs and prostitution and children abuse. She spent most of her life alone until a boy comes into her life: Judah Grant. He's gorgeous and kind & smokes pot (that was hilarious), but most important, he has a disability: He's in a wheelchair.
Her "life" goes on & one day, a little girl (Nevaeh) that she knew disappears in a mysterious way, in the meantime our superhero takes her first victim: her neighborhood who was beating her baby. It was spontaneous and she didn't really knew why she actually kill her. Obviously, taking a live takes it's toll on young Margo, who consumed with guilt ask herself if killing her was worth it. But she didn't have much time to process it.
Every person in the Bone tries to find Nevaeh, and the police did find the child, she was murderer. Margo, wrecked by the loss of someone so young killed that way, goes after the killer. And oh, she finds her: it was Nevaeh's mother. Now, who murders her own child?! You have to be a soulless monster to do that. Margo wants revenge and she has it (She burned the monster down).
Now she has her own mother on the watch. Margo finds a box in the oven, in it was a baby corpse. Her mother didn't stop there and she dies in a own-making-miscarriage, of course Margo could've do something like cal 911, but she didn't want to do it. Margo tries to also killed her father but fails. After that, she takes the money that her mother earned selling her body, and leaves the Bone.
She starts a new life as a waitress in Seattle, but her murderer side cannot be put to sleep and she does it again: a guy in an alley who tried to rape a girl who find online. She didn't meant to kill that time. It was just that wrong place, wrong time kind of thing, although, I liked it.
Life goes on until, in a park she sees a weird guy lurking around on the child part of the park. Sensing wrongness, Margo starts stalking him to know what was wrong with the dude. Unfortunately again she couldn't do anything for the victim and arrived to late. The guy was a rapist, and he rapes a woman in a parking lot of a mall.
Goddamnit. The whole book was like watching the news, and I just wish that every felon could read this to put the fear of God in their bones. Anyway, Margo filled with guilt goes after the rapist to end with his life, the problem was that Margo was so self-centered that he overpowers her and send her (with a supposed intent of suicide) to a psychiatric center.
In that center, she knows lovely and purring Saphira Elgin. The queen of the crazy. And I just lose it. I don't trust that woman AT ALL. She's as crazy as her patients, which incidentally, we get to see that that's the same place they took Senna form Mud Vain to recover. I was fangirling so hard! But at the same time, I wanted to choke Elgin to dead.
So when she tells Margo that his beloved Judah killed himself I didn't buy it for a second. I mean, that woman is sick. And what pissed me off the most, was that she believed her. Of course the purring b*tch had proofs of the accident, but I mean, c'mon! But, I remembered something (after I re-read it, that is). There's this literary theory that claims that if you don't see it or experienced, in that very second, it doesn't exist. So what if (and it's a big if) that's what this is about. Judah does exist but under this principle. He exist when Margo sees him and smell him.
And I'mma be honest, this give me goose bumps. It's thrilling that she uses that kind of resources and techniques. And even if she didn't (I don't want to know the truth, though), let's guess that he doesn't exist, this fact kept us up till late hours pondering theories and making guesses and it's so beautiful!
Those last chapters, when she leaves the asylum and goes after that b*stard Leroy and castrates him, it's so powerful. It's the perfect punishment. Go Margo!
And her return to the Bone, oh God, the fact that you can't escape your roots. That they call you, that you have them in your marrow (even if you don't want to be part of that trashy place) It's a shout to never forgive who you are. And maybe a place doesn't define you, but it's a part of who you are and you should be proud of it, and if you're not, then make a move to change it into a better place. Maybe not the way of Margo did, because regrettably it's ilegal, but still...
Anyway, tell me in the comment section what was your favorite part, or your thoughts of perfect Judah, or just what you have for dinner. I will see you in the next post, byyyyyye.
